Cellulite is one of the most common lipodystrophy, which affects about 85%  of  women  over  20  years  of  age.  Differences  in  the  structure  of fatty  lobules  between  men  and  women  mean  that  women’s  cellulite occurs much more frequently and with greater severity.

Two types of cellulite are determined

  • hard, called the water cellulite
  • a soft, called fat  cellulite.

Symptoms  of  cellulite  divided  into  subjective  (feeling  of heaviness and excessive tension of the lower limbs, cramps, paresthesia, tingling,  periodic  pain  with  slight  intensity,  usually  spontaneous)  and symptoms  noticable  by  doctors  (a  symptom  of  “orange  peel”  and “mattress symptom”, stretch marks, changes in color: discoloration and hyperpigmentation of the skin). In the physical examination additionally may  be  observed:  subcutaneous  edema,  varicose  veins,  and  trophic changes in the skin.

Etiopathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of cellulite

The article also describes the ethiopathogenesis formation of cellulite, cellulite  diagnostic  principles  (visual  assessment,  palpation,  skin analysis  using  special  parameters  and  scales  like  Nurnberger-Muller scale for example, measurement the circumference of the thigh of the patient, thermography, classic ultrasonography, study of high frequency elastography) and treatment (for example cocktails needle mesotherapy, endermologie,  carbosyntheraphy,  laser  therapy,  phonophoresis, lymphatic drainage).

The  aim  of  the  study  was  to  discuss  the  pathophysiology  of  the formation of cellulite, to draw attention to the cause of its formation for primary prevention, as well as discuss the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
