Influence of vitamin A on skin condition

Vitamin A is a component of many topical preparations. Retinol and retinoids belong to the most effective anti-aging substances.

Vitamin A smoothes the skin out and gives it elasticity, reduces wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, increases the fibroblast number and activity, stimulates collagen production. Retinol and retinyl palmitate, retinal and beta-carotene are the most frequently used components in cosmetic preparations. Retinyl palmitate influences first of all the external layers of the epidermis. It is recommended in roughness and dryness of the skin. Irritating properties and instability of vitamin A restrict its application in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulas. Recently there have been published papers presenting new retinol derivatives of higher effectiveness and stability than retinol, tolerated considerably better than the retinoic acid.
